WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT LHASA IN MARCH
Since the temperatures are rising, more visitors start coming to Tibet in March. However, for many years, Tibet was often closed for all foreign visitors in March, especially in the first half of March. In recent years regulations started to change. Still, we recommend planning your visit at the end of March or the beginning of April.
Additionally, Tibetan New Year often falls on February or March. During that time, the Tibetan tourism bureau is closed and it affects the process of obtaining a Tibet travel permit.
The bottom line, although the weather in Lhasa in March is good, we recommend planning your visit in April instead. It is due to travel regulations in March and the New Year celebrations that can affect the processing time of your permits.

In March, there is still a significant temperature difference between day and nighttime. The best way to be prepared is to wear layers. Have a long sleeve shirt or a base layer, sweaters, and a warm jacket. Wear comfortable pants with a base layer when needed. Don’t forget to pack a hat, scarf and a pair of gloves.
As we walk a lot while exploring Lhasa, it is important to have comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes. It is best to have shoes that you already broke in and know that you can wear them all day. Wear them with wool or hiking socks.
