WHAT DO DO ON THE YAMDROK LAKE

Capture photos of the lake

Yamdrok lake is a magnificent natural lake. It is a holy lake in Tibet. That’s why Tibetans never swim or fish in the lake. You can see the lake’s pristine and untouched beauty. Mineral sediment of the lake give it deep bright turquoise color. High mountains surround the lake. The peaks are covered in snow from late fall till spring. All that makes Yamdrok lake a great place for photographers. As the lake is far from city and lights, on clear nights you can take photos of the starry sky.

Meet Tibet’s famous animals

You can see nomads with Tibetan Mastiff dogs and white yaks by the lake. You can come close to these famous animals and take a photo with them.

Go on a short hike

There are some short paths available near the lake. You can spend a day outdoors walking by the lake and enjoying its beauty.

Watch migrating birds in winter

Many birds migrate from Western Tibet to the area around Lhasa and Yamdrok lake to spend all winter. You can see black headed cranes and golden ducks near the lake.

Take a break and relax

Sometimes you just want to take a break for one day, rest, listen to bird’s singing and listen to the quiet sound of waves breaking on the shore.
